Spreading Malted Milk Bar Goodness

This week hubby asked for a sweet and so I picked up the cookbook I bought with my mom on our spa day: Good Housekeeping Favorite Recipes Brownies Check this one out!

Malted Milk Bar Brownies

Brownie:

1 1/2 cups flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 sticks butter

4 squares (4 ounces) semisweet chocolate

2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened chocolate

1 1/2 cups sugar

1 tablespoon vanilla

4 eggs, beaten

Malted Milk Topping

3/4 cup malted milk powder (i used chocolate malted milk powder)

3 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 tablespoons softened butter

1 cup confectioner’s sugar

1 1/2 cups malted milk ball candies, coarsely chopped

1. Preheat oven to 350. Grease a 9 X 13 pan.

2. Prepare brownie: in small bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and sale. In heavy 3-quart saucepan, melt butter and semisweet and unsweetened chocolates over low heat, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. With wooden spoon, stir in sugar and vanilla. Beat in eggs until well blended. Stir in flour mixture. Spread batter evenly in prepared pan. Bake until toothpick comes out clean, 25-30 minutes. Cool in pan on wire rack.

4. Prepare topping: In small bowl, stir together malted milk powder, milk, and vanilla until blended. Stir in butter and confectioner’s sugar until blended. With small spatula, spread topping over cooled brownie; top with chopped malted milk ball candies. Allow topping to set.

Best the first day. Enjoy!
