OK, I’m back with more news from the New House which is now almost 18 months old for us (it was actually built in 1959). Some things you don’t know until you move in. Some things you don’t realize for a few months. And some excruciatingly obvious things you don’t figure out for a full year and a half.
Have you ever heard the advice that you shouldn’t buy white or off-white carpeting? Because, y’know, it shows stains really easy? OK, I am here to tell you from REALLY EXPENSIVE experience that this advice is ABSOLUTELY ACCURATE. I have a family room 13X30 – now a sea of cream that shouts out every single blue fiber from every pair of socks that walks across it – that demonstrates this concept beautifully. And won’t be re-carpeted for 15-20 years. And when the carpet layers come to replace it with a dark brown mottled pattern at least one them is going to say, “Who the hell put cream carpeting in a room this size?” and I’m going to shake my head sadly and say “tsk, tsk, tsk.”
