5th Local Library Card – 4.18 Miles from Home

A new library opened up one township over – the Delta Township District Library. The board hasn’t realized that they can charge people for non-residency cards so I got one (for free) immediately. Why do I need a 5th library card? This library is definitely the Cool Cat library around here now. Let me show you:

That’s the floor plan. See how the whole building curves? It backs up right into woods and they have enormous windows all across that side of the building and comfy chairs. The most comfy chairs are in the teen area. Bummer. I just can’t pass for 16 any longer. They have murals by a famous Michigan children’s illustrator on prominent walls. They have tiled art work. They have a women’s history reading room. They have recycling.

They don’t have a cafe but DT has just now become my “place to go” when I need some place to snuggle in and read, hop on a computer, have a meeting, see friends and/or be in a library. Cause I do. Need to be in a library sometimes. I like them. I want to go to them. Going to a library is like going to a coffee shop. You don’t need a reason. You just do it as a course of nature.

Also, this is a green library. Built from the ground up green. They had an open house for librarians yesterday and I went with colleagues and got a tour. Below is their statement on the matter. They also have special parking for alternative fuel vehicles. I couldn’t figure out how to scan in color but the brochure is very nice.

Even Lansing changes.
