Wine class continues…

In week 2 of the wine class we were taught how to read a wine bottle. I failed at this lesson miserably. It’s all in FRENCH! and I can’t tell the difference between the producer and the name of the wine and additional descriptive words and required information. It’s terribly frustrating. Have I ever mentioned here that I studied French 1 for 3 years and was never able to matriculate to French 2? It’s true. I was a high school foreign language disaster.

I know wine class isn’t supposed to be a challenge but when I realized the wine bottle lesson had come to it’s conclusion because he erased his fake wine bottle label off the board I almost cried out. But I don’t get it yet!! Was I the only adult in the room, who, after twenty minutes, still couldn’t read a wine bottle? Actually? Probably not…

I also can’t pronounce anything that we’re drinking, which is a hassle when hubby asks me what we’re tasting and I look at the list and have to reply, “I can’t say it.”

I’ve also learned I’m not crazy about Bordeaux or Burgundy wines – at least those I tried. Too rich, puckering dry and bitter to my taste. “Barnyardy” the professor calls some of them. But I love Vouvray (a little sweeter) and next week we’re on to Champagne and then Alsace and German wines.
