Betsie, Joel, and I sat down one brisk fall day to watch this movie. I remembered it fondly from my early 20s, when I enjoyed it as much as the Sound of Music. In re-watching it, however, I found that it was not in fact as high-quality a movie as the Sound of Music. I think what really had me where the costumes. They are magnificent. Betsie, who is quite the musicals fan, couldn’t even make it all the way through this one. She was bored. So, all in all, I enjoyed it but when it didn’t live up to my previous mental image of the movie. I was a little disappointed.
