100 Things About Me 10 Years Later 34-72

34. My math skills have steadily declined over the past ten years. I can barely count at this point.

35. Instead of selling or giving away used books now, we just buy more book shelves.

36. I belong to two book clubs.

37. Reality TV is my guilty pleasure. And I pretty much love all reality TV. It must be the formula.

38. My favorite news commentator is David Brooks.

39. I still make at least ten kinds of cookies at Christmas. Now I recruit friends to help.

40. I play euchre on Friday during lunch with a crew from Archives.

41. We were recently a Nielsen family. Is it too late to bring back Firefly? I only ask, because, y’know, X-Files.

42. I make seriously awesome French toast out of pumpkin swirl bread.

43. My favorite scent is lavender.

44. My favorite color is still plum.

45. I’m a much more conventional person than I was when I did this 10 years ago.

46. Best marital advice I ever got:

Me to grandma, kinda whiny: Hubby spends all his time in the garage, fixing it up and organizing his tools.

Grandma (kinda stern): Is he out drinking?

Me: no.

Grandma: Is he out gambling?

Me: no.

Grandma: Is he spending his time with other women?

Me: no.

Grandma: Leave him alone.

47. I get my news from NBC, PBS and All Things Considered. I also check out Fox and Friends on occasion just to hear what the other side has to say.

48. The thing I feel most guilty about are my half-hearted recycling efforts.

49. For a long time I felt guilty about not being more enthusiastic about social justice. But I’m just not there at this point in my life.

50. My favorite vegetable is roasted Brussels sprouts. Like every other bourgeoise American.

51. I write my own knitting patterns.

52. I’m only so-so at bar trivia but I play every Monday and have a really good time.

53. I love Diet Coke and pineapple Bacardi.

54. I stopped dyeing my hair ten years ago and I still have to remind myself how much of a hassle it is to keep up. I just don’t like my hair color.

55. I spent most of 2018 battling my dependence on caffeine. Then I learned that people who drink more coffee (even LOTS more coffee) than the average person live longer and I thought: why exactly am I fighting this? I’m back to my mid-afternoon pick me up, guilt free.

56. My second favorite vegetable is roasted cauliflower.

57. I belong to a music challenge club where participants have to come up with playlists that match the challenge criteria. There are six of us that play.

58. I make awesome pot pie. Chicken or beef, take your pick.

59. I used to need 9 hours of sleep a night and I felt like I was missing out on my life snoozing. After a medication change, I’m down to about 7 most nights. This is living.

60. I like to color.

61. The best line I ever heard in a job interview to the question: What is your greatest weakness? Was, “I’m a bit shy and I need to remind myself to put myself and my ideas out there.” Tots stealing that one.

62. This year I traded out of state travel (to conferences) for a seat at Disney customer service training. Completely worth it.

63. Right now I’m reading “All Who Go Do Not Return” by Shulem Deen about an Hassidic Jew who leaves the faith. It’s really good.

64. I’m also reading “Robicheaux” by James Lee Burke out loud with Hubby. I think he’s pretty well played out that series.

65. I’m also re-reading “Deadline” by John Sandford. Love John Sandford.

66. I have half a dozen books about Islam in the modern era on my to-read list.

67. I fell in the garage yesterday on a slippery mat and am sporting a huge bruise on my knee.

68. I once said that I killed a cactus. That’s only partially true. I got tired of looking at it and it not doing anything and I threw it out. I am a horrible person.

69. I’ve had a presentation accepted at Computers in Libraries in DC in March. Excited!

70. At 46, I’m not sorry that I didn’t have children.

71. This year, we canceled cable. I feel like I have bragging rights among the cool cats.

72. My favorite recent find in the realm of cookbooks is Vegan with a Vengeance. I’m not going to become a vegan but I love those recipes!
