Almost all public libraries use the Dewey Decimal system to shelve their non-fiction books. And almost all academic libraries use the Library of Congress (LC) system.

Do you want to know how academic libraries saved their staff during the Great Depression? So, that’s how a lot of library jobs got saved in the 30’s – by switching entire collections from Dewey to LC. ON PAPER CATALOGING CARDS.

Can you fathom the job security of changing classification systems? Brilliant, just brilliant. There are many reasons to admire librarians. Among them? Timing!
