For October we opted to read scary books in honor of Halloween. I chose to continue my odyssey of rereading Ann Rice.
The title I chose was The Witching Hour. This is a sweeping, epic novel that spends several hundred years in the life of a doomed family cursed by a spirit named Lasher. I loved this book for many a year – I would go so far as to say it is superior to her vampire novels- and really enjoyed re-reading it. It’s a great introduction to Rice although I have to say that in attempting to re-read the sequel, Lasher, I find I’m very uncomfortable with the way that she portrayed sexually provocative young teens. But the first book didn’t have that same problem. It was a great spooky read and perfect for Halloween. I recommend it for anyone interested in sampling Ann Rice.
