Happy Holidays 2020

I’ve been keeping a COVID journal this year. I pose question to others such as: “What did you learn about yourself this year?” Tonight I asked Scott, “What were the three best things that happened to you this year?”

The best things that happened to Scott this year:

01

My Job

“I worked at the library the entire year through. I was considered an essential worker.”

02

Promotion!

“I’ve been promoted to the Braille and Talking Book Library Manager.”

03

Vacation

“Greg and I went camping at White Cloud State campground.”

The best things that happened to Sonya this year:

01

How My Days Feel

I really like working from home.

I love quarantine

02

Friends and Family

I’ve strengthened relationships and reconnected with friends and family near and far.

Scott and I did some adulting and took care of our estate planning. We put it off for 18 years, and wow it feels good to have it done!

03

Professional Success

I took a year-long, second, part-time job at the California Library Association for the experience. Btwn the two jobs, I spend a lot of time on Zoom!

We enjoyed time with friends

We spent lovely summer afternoons on the deck of our friends Greg and Judy. Scott got a little fuzzy wuzzy. Greg took care of that!

Home remodeling

We redecorated the master bedroom. Love. Love. Love it.

Sonya went on a road trip

I had a rough time health-wise in the spring, a lotta back pain. And hey, while I am going with the glass-half-full view of 2020, the lockdown was the lockdown. By summer, I was ready to go road-tripping.

My first long walk after I was feeling better: Dragon and I went to Hartwick Pines, an old-growth forest.

And participated in a very serious Zinnia competition

On our way home we stopped at Meijer Gardens and headed immediately for the children’s area. Best treehouse OF. ALL. TIME. After several hours under a very pleasant sky, we headed in to sip on a Coke before heading home.

Quote of the Day

“When I’m not in my human form, my home looks a lot like that ceiling sculpture.”

A quiet fall

By early November, I was sufficiently terrified by every news broadcast that I went back into lockdown. We had invited mom and Dragon for Thanksgiving and then canceled it. We’re finishing up the year quietly, hoping the best for the vaccine, and for you in 2021.

  1. Greetings Sonya,

Commenting on your excellent post looked different than usual, so I’ll write it in an email.

First, congratulations to Scott on his ongoing employment during the pandemic, and on his promotion to manager. It’s good that he’s appreciated for his skills and appropriately paid for his work.

And as to you, Sonya, it amazes me all that you’ve accomplished during this most unpredictable, whacked out and frightening year. I applaud your energy and your willingness to press forward and do the things you wanted to do, particularly your vacation with Rebecca and taking on another job, even though I know you enjoyed doing those things.

I wish you and Scott a happy holiday season, and all the best as we move into the new year.

    Cheers! Bethany
